Derrick began playing the guitar many, many years ago (well, maybe not THAT many . . .).  After playing in some bands and teaching guitar at some local music stores in his midwestern hometown area, he finally got fed up with all the hillbillies and packed it in for Boston, where he'd always wanted to live, but never thought he'd be able to afford.  Since moving to Boston, he's continued teaching at places like Music Maker Studios, the Boston Center for Adult Education, and Nobles and Greenough, and also has been playing with local bands such as Ransom, Hard Drive, Dick and Jane, and now Sound Asylum.

Playing guitar for 25 years has allowed Scot to live out one of his dreams, to play professionally and tour with a national act. Enjoying his tenure in almost a dozen bands has created a family of musical friends and lasting memories. He recently toured as “Joe Perry” in the Aerosmith tribute band "Draw the Line”. He has also performed with Rod Stewart, Roy Orbison, Elton John and Patsy Kline impersonators. Scot also played guitar in the John Mellencamp tribute band “Scarecrow” with singer Paul Faiella for 7 years.  Now  "Sound Asylum” is his next project blending close friends and years of experience and love for the guitar and music!

Bass Guitar

Twenty years has passed since Paul first picked up a bass; some would say the best twenty years of his life. With an absolute love of music and his fellow musicians, Paul began playing again in the fall of 2005 after a self-imposed layoff. Asked to join a new project comprised of top notch musicians that he had met or played with on different occasions, he jumped at the chance and now can be found holding down the bottom end of Sound Asylum. With eyes closed and an ear to ear grin he enjoys making a joyful noise. Come to a show and see if you can feel the thunder.

Paul has been in the entertainment business for more than half his life. As an actor, Paul has been on tours, in musicals, performed in off-Broadway Productions as well as commercials. Stand-up Improv, Party DJ, Dancer and Show Director are also found on his resume. Paul’s life-long dream of being THE front man of a rock-n-roll band came in 1991 and he has been front and center ever since. Of all the many bands Paul has been a part of, “Scarecrow-The John Mellencamp Tribute Band”, “Waiting for Jane”, “Ransom," and "Sound Asylum” are the ones closest to his heart.

Brian began playing drums at the ripe old age of 10. He was consistently involved in Jazz band, Marching band and small groups since then. Brian has also performed with, and opened for, Grammy award winning musicians such as Franny Shehann from the band Boston, Cesar Diaz from Bob Dylan’s band, and Rick Danko from The Band, and has played live engagements in front of thousands of people.  He hopes to continue to perform until he drops dead or his hands fall off (lets hope neither one happens anytime soon!).
